About the Artist
Born in Colorado in 1985, Schall received her BFA from Colorado State University in 2008 before moving to New York City. After working as an art assistant, she developed her own practice in photorealistic drawing and painting. Following seven years in New York’s art scene, a near-crippling neck injury abruptly interrupted her practice, leaving her unable to draw or paint. She subsequently relocated to New Orleans, where the city’s slower pace and vibrant creative culture provided space for healing and a new direction in her work.
During her recovery, Schall turned to sewing as a form of rehabilitation, gradually regaining mobility and dexterity in her right hand and arm. What began as physical therapy developed into a parallel practice in wearable art, eventually becoming an integral part of her studio practice. After returning to drawing and painting, Schall began incorporating her hand-sewn gloves and garments into her work, allowing sewing to remain both a physical practice and a recurring material within her paintings.
Schall’s work has been published nationally and internationally, including in Flaunt Magazine alongside Yayoi Kusama. Her work has also been featured in the National Museum of Women in the Arts’ Art Fix alongside artists including Kiki Smith and Yoko Ono.
Schall splits her time between Denver, Colorado, and New Orleans, Louisiana.
